Lasting approx. 60-90 minutes, we will go through your requirements, discuss options, and put a care plan together. This can be done prior to surgery, where it is a planned procedure. If your pet is already home from surgery, we will translate that vet report for you too!
Sometimes your pet may have a surgical dressing that needs to be changed. Your vet may have sent you home with the materials, but you might be unsure about how to do it. We can either show you how, or help you to do it.
If your pet is unable to stand or properly move about post-surgery, it is important they they are regularly repositioned to maintain blood flow to all areas of skin and other tissues. We can show you how, or do it for you. This may also include passive range of motion for the limbs, as this is an important part of recovery.
Pets that have suffered any kind of paralysis might not be able to effectively empty their own bladder. Often, clients will be shown this technique on discharge, but my have forgotten by the time they get home (which is understandable since there is a lot to remember on top of the anguish you might be feeling). We can show you how, or even pop in and do it for you.
The likelihood is that your pet will be on restricted exercise, possibly initially only for toilet breaks. This can be difficult for owners to manage in the initial stages when your pet gets home, either because you are worried about further injury, or you're not sure how best to physically support your pet. We can advise, support, demonstrate, or even do this for you.
As vet physios, we are trained in the application of non-pharmaceutical pain management. We have a range of modalities available to us, some which we are happy to hire out to you for you to use, some which are applied by us during your appointment. This includes TENS, LASER, PEMF, cryotherapy, heat therapy, and massage.
This service was developed after a number of physio clients described how it was difficult for them in the initial stages after their pet was discharged from the vets. We have tried to think of everything, and it's by no means an exhaustive list, but if there's something you need help with, just drop us a message. Sarah has over 15 years experience in the pet care industry, including veterinary nursing. She is insured, and DBS checked.
